Fishing Report 22nd July 2000
As my best mate did not bother to turn out I went fishing on my own.
I was on the water by 10am the sea conditions were smooth,no waves and little swell in the harbour.
Around the point at Beadnell and after 10 minutes I was 1.5nm out and baited my daylights with lug, engine off and dropped over. Immediate success with a 2.5lb cod and for the next half hour landed five fish of similar size with one or two smaller codling thrown back. Continuing my drift towards North Sunderland bouy I thought I was snagged but it started to move up and I had to pump up my biggest fish of the season a lovely 10.2lb cod.
Had lunch and continued fishing landing a few more cod , releasing four quite big Wrasse, a number of coleys and some small codling.
Finished the day at 4.30pm and was back in harbour by 5pm. Photos taken and will be shown when I get them back.
Seventeen fish in the box weighing 3.5st.

Fishing Report 29th July 2000
We arrived early at Beadnell around 9.15am
the weather was ok but a bit misty. The sea was like glass with no swell at all. We went out past the point and were into the fish straight away. After an hour we were well down the coast and so we motored back up to the point about a mile out. The current was desceptive and we were having to move again after an hour. After another two hours the tide changed and it started taking us back to Beadnell. The best fish was a 6.2lb cod and in all 29 fish in the box. We returned a number of Wrasse, small codling, coal fish and one small Haddock.
We actually ran out of bait but fish were still been caught on unbaited daylights. We returned at 5.30pm.
Fishing report for the 30 Setember 2000
The arrival of my new boat meant that we could go further afield. Fishing in 75metres we caught some thirty codling but nothing of note. The drifts were quite fierce
and so it was difficult to keep bottom.
Report for the 21st October 2000
Nobody was at Beadnell but us on a cool Saturday morning and a sea that was only slight to moderate. Gales were blowing in the West and this must have put the rest off.
There was little wind here and the drive out was smooth. Four miles out from the point and Jim took a two pound fish straight away. We continue to drift Southwards and the fishing was tough as there was a strong tide. After an hour we had ten fish in the box but nothing of size.
The tide slackened and the fishing became good (in numbers) and we selected the best releasing quite a few.
A small Ling was returned by Jim, small coalies, small codling, and a Gurnard. in all 87 fish were caught and reluctantly we returned to harbour at 5.30pm.
The box was half full and took us both to carry it.

30th March 2001
Eager to start the new season we went out fron Amble. Permit to launch was £6.25 and we only had rag worm,as bait was difficult to get with it been a Friday. The tide was well out when we arrived and deep mud made launching a nightmare ,but we managed. The main trouble was due to the fuel line been detached from the tank, something I never thought of checking, and must have been done at the Service Centre.
The sea was great and speeds up to and over twenty miles per hour were reached- flying along. The day was quite warm at first but after an hour or two the coats had to be worn. The trip out was excellent but alas the fishing was terrible and we returned at four with nothing but our thoughts. The run out was great though and recovery was better than the launch as the tide was well up the ramp. Future trips from there will mean closer monitoring of the tides.
6th May 2001
The first trip from Beadnell this year found a glorious day and sea. Been early in the season we found fish just out from the point
straight away. Six drifts in a southerly direction as the tide came in saw that we boated twenty cod and one coley.
The fishing slackened off then and so we went for trip around the Farne Islands and I have posted new pics on the website.
12th May 2001
It was a very sunny day and the sea conditions were smooth to slight with only a slight swell. There was a cool westerly wind blowing. We fished for two hours and had lunch in and around the Farne Isles watching the young seals and vast birdlife ever present. Two canooists were well impressed with our fifteen cod.
19th May 2001.
No one to take fishing did not prevent me going out on what was a fair and bright day. Launching and recovery was done without any assistance and was no problem whatsoever. By 10.15am I had hooked my first cod and fishing was quite excellent all day. The sea was really calm and I did hit a purple patch only 1 mile out of Beadnell where I took 10 2-3lb cod in under an hour. I returned with thirty fish having returned 10 that were not so big. Quite a good day!
24th May 2001.
Off work meant a midweek trip. I was only allowed out until 3pm 'cos the tractor driver goes home. The day was fine and bright and I could see dolphins playing in the distance. Thirty fish were caught and mostly 1.5lb-2lbs. Twenty keepers shared out with neighbours and friends when I got home.
25th May 2001.
We got to Beadnell by 9.10am and were at the point before 10am. Fishing was quiet at first with Jim actually going ahead after I had caught two Cod. His lead lasted about an hour and did he make the most of it. However as usual I started to catch regularly and it ended twenty three to twelve. The biggest fish weighed in at 3lb 2oz. The bait ran out about 4pm so we had a cruise to Bamburgh Castle as it was such a nice day.

Two weeks without going out was too much particularly as it was near mid summer (supposedly), however the forecast was good and we were on the water at 9.45am. The fishing was quite slow due to the strong tide and little was caught from our usual marks. The odd 4.25lb cod was caught and a few smaller cod, but nothing of note. We found closer inshore better especially when conditions worsened and the sea got lumpy. It was rather cold as well. We got more excitement from the local Wrasse and octopus! We took ten fish home but an early finish.
1st July 2001
The weather was poor, again and so we could not really get out very far. Fishing was not good and only ten fish in the box after 4 hours. The strong offshore wind meant it was difficult to keep bottom and it was blowing us into heavy seas so we came back early.
8th July 2001
The weather was not much of an improvement on the previous week but the fishing was much better and we boated 18 fish with the best 4.75lb. However there was a strong wind and when the tide turned we had to pack in as we were flying down the coast.
15th July 2001, the weather was ok but a strong wind blew us inland very quickly and it soon became uncomfortable to continue. An early finish meant only ten fish caught with the best about 3lbs.
20th July 2001, as I was going away a Friday trip was arranged and we picked quite a good day. The fishing was not brilliant but fair. I boated six cod and released around eight smaller fish. There was nothing of size about.
31st July 2001. Returning from my holiday in Sharm I was keen to fish and was amply rewarded with around ten nice cod, two octopus and a lot of mackerel. Wrasse continued to show. Two decent ling also showed but were put back. Porpoises were seen on a few occasions.
4th August 2001. Went out again on a near perfect sea, only that showers were forcast that would spoil the day.
Fishing was not too good but the icing on the cake was a lovely 11lb Cod, caught within 20 yards of another boat and theres nothing quite like an audience when you boat a canny one.
11th August 2001.
The wind was quite strong and the launching guys said we were mad for going out but we had to give it a go. The sea varied from good to bad and it was difficult to find any shelter. We drifted quite quickly to Bamburgh Castle and after a long drive back to the point we found the wind had changed to a Westerly that made the sea worsen.
We had caught a few Cod and an early finish was on the cards when we decided to fish Beadnell bay which was quite sheltered. Fish showed on the finder holed up in gulleys and after five 30 minute drifts we had twenty fish in the box.
25th August 2001
A weekend off meant we were keen to get out and the weather was glorious so I planned to go out to the deeps (90mtrs). We arrived at just past nine and were under way by 9.45.
11am and we were sixteen miles out, just us,the birds and the seals. There were no fish though only two small haddock!!! We had to see what was there though and so we motored back inshore. There was little about though and it was rumoured a pod of whales was seen hanging around, the seals were acting strangely as well but we did not see them.
In all we kept three fish which was just as well as we have been giving away most of our catches.

1st September 2001
The year is quickly passing but another fine day saw me round the point and two miles out by 10.30am. There were no fish though, so I went to a wreck 5 miles out. I hit a good fish on my first drop and after ten passes I had caught ten. The conditions worsened and so I headed back inshore to the radio mast and had lunch which was interrupted by my first FOUR of the year, I was praying it was one fish but they were all put in the box!! I continued catching and counted fifty fish in all but half were returned. I didn't fancy stopping up all night filleting.
I had to pack in whilst still catching at 4pm( to watch the footy, still can't beleive 5-1 against the Germans.
The launching guys got eight off me and Jim who didn't come, you'll be sorry!!!
June 1st 2002. At last,a day at sea, although a late start due to Her Majesty's finest meant we were not on the water until 12. There were few fishing although conditions were fair however a southerly breeze and tidal race meant we were going along around 2mph. To the gulleys and we found fish around 3lb, twelve in all only about four hundred yards out.
20th July 2002
Been on holiday to the Caymans for two weeks, diving every day, no fishing-too expensive and the catch would be off before I got home.
A perfect day at Beadnell - mirror glass sea, no tidal current to speak of. However catches had been poor lately but we managed 14 good size keepers. We caught a similar amount that were returned to grow even bigger. Two nice haddock of the Sottish variety (does the flesh turn green or something - I will find out soon!), One small mackerel accidently caught after a snap off and a nice Wrasse that was returned. A small seal pup surfaced along side the boat and just laid there for a few minutes. Porpoises were also around for some time but kept their distance. Terns were constantly bombing the sand eals that were plentifull. There was a storm moving down from Scotland according to the radio and so we headed back in at 4pm and managed to miss the worst weather. Other boats did not do as well as us most managing only five fish caught, so.......
